Contemplative mood

Differences between pleasures and happiness!
You know pleasure dont last for more than they are, happiness does last a lot longer…of course!

But pleasures are easy and happiness seems to require some type of sacrifice. Of course totally the eye with which you look at it!

Guess the answer is clear.

How come Indian life is so cheap?

Please read, sign and forward http://www.petitiononline.com/IIT4BHPL.

Many people tell me, if we hadnt let it happen, it wouldnt have happened. Probably true. True that our governments also erred. That doesnt give Dow the right to get away with the disaster.

God or otherwise!

If believing in God is all about belief – a blind faith, isnt being an atheist equally powerful? A strong disbelief in the existence of God. This disbelief is as ‘big’ as belief.

Development!

A buzz word everyone has an opinion about. We do. All of us do. We love – “India Superpower”. What it means? We dont have a clue. But we do have a direction. Each and every one in the billion+ population of ours has a direction for India.

Vision – to have a developed nation, sooner than later.
How? Simple – copycat – US is developed because it did 1, 2, 3. ^C and ^V India is developed! Wow! What a visionary?

Many a times we swallow a bitter pill sugar coated with “India the superpower”. But well – development is not an easy goal or a task.

In fact I dont think there is a consensus of what a develped country is. Indian Express is running a timepass section called “India Vs America: Let the battle begin!”. Nice to see people think about development. But too many brains – some on cloud nine, some somewhere in Antartica.

I came across this in an online magazine called The South Asian. Since it was a multi-part series, I got bored.

In my life till now, I realized one basic thing – per capita income in itself doesnt tell anything about the general population but its distribution is more important to see if a country is developed or not. Yeah, it is a no-brainer – but make careful arguements around that, please!

Do put down your thoughts. I need to understand as many aspects of development as possible.

Suppose for a minute…

Continuing the discussion on National Security

Suppose national security is securing the lives of the people (called the citizens) living on the land, we chose to call a ‘nation’. Securing from whom? Obviously external threats that might disturb the fabric of the nation.

What more?
Simply put – does it (National Security) amount to saving lives of citizens of that nation.

Season for non-violence

Intro here
64 days, 64 ways of non-violence – at least it is a start! The spirit and the ways should continue all through the year:)

And finally, what sparun has been doing about Season for Non-Violence. Well he is leading the efforts in JHU, addressing a very tough local problem. Read more here.

On popular demand, he has decided to highlight one way (out of the 64 ways of non-violence), daily.

Simply, being opposed to the very idea of non-vioence, is in itself a violent thought:) But why are the ways tough? Or am I making some of them more profound than they ought to be?

Today’s suggested way: GRATITUDE
Begin the day by listing 5 things for which you are grateful and end it by sharing with one person all of the good things that happened to you today.

In a democracy, who needs more security?

The person who shouts the national anthem on top of her/his voice or the person who opposes what s/he thinks is wrong – even be it singing the national anthem?
Do they have the same rights?

Hats off to free speech!

National security?!

National secuirty – securing the nation?? I guess so.

So, what is a nation?
A mass of land, carved out of earth and with defined boundaries?
To protect that is national security?
How have we changed from the old ages, when there were kingdoms instead of nations?
